Remix Conversation 4: The Good Eye

For this remix I focused on what 'the good eye' sees compared to a 'normal' eye. A normal eye would just hit play and watch the film without thinking twice about the composition of a shot or a scene. The good eye notices things like color palettes, lighting techniques, the purpose of props, the effects of the camera position, and the placement of characters and/or objects. This perspective plays, pauses, and rewinds a scene to analyze its features and figure out the functionality of each creative choice that was made. The effects of these choices can manipulate how the intended message is received, ultimately creating new meanings and understandings from the image.
remix conversation 5: disinformation

For this remix I read both Buckingham (2017) "Fake News: Is Media Literacy the Answer" and Lohr (2018) "Facial Recognition is Accurate, if You're a White Guy." I tried to focus on how both readings had a common theme of misrepresentation. The truth of anything is almost always black and white, there should be no grey area of confusion. Fake news manipulates that truth and distorts our perception and understanding of it. One quote that stuck in my mind was, "falsehood flies and the truth comes limping after it" (Buckingham, 2017). In my image, there's a person holding up a Polaroid that serves as a window into what the media does to manipulate the truth in the world, whether it be about politicians or general issues. He's letting falsehood (the colors) bleed into the black and white stripes while 'the truth' limps behind and struggles to catch up to fix the mess.
Remix conversation 6: Ideology

For this remix I chose to focus on the identity of Body Mod Extremes. A good number of people in my family are covered in tattoos and piercings so I'm very familiar with all the stigma attached to people who look like them. The media tends to only show 'nice looking', clean cut people so to see someone who doesn't look like the 'normal' that's portrayed, naturally creates uneasy feelings or opinions. And in movies/tv shows, the 'bad boy' or group of 'bad' people are almost always seen with leather jackets and body modifications. Therefore, creating the unrealistic belief that people who dress or alter their bodies that way participate in bad activities or possess characteristics of bad behavior. For my drawing I drew a person in a leather jacket with stripes across their body. The stripes represent old black and white prison uniforms, that symbolize how this person is seen as a criminal of some sort.
